Job Description:

The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for production of construction documents from initial design to bidding under supervision of a senior engineerThe job responsibilities include developing electrical wiring diagrams, device layouts and panel layouts. As part of the design packet, the Engineer will compile the specifications as wellThe Systems Controls Engineer will need to effectively communicate cross-functionally to gain support for projects and drive schedule compliance. They also will interface and collaborate with material-handling vendors, conveyor manufacturers, electrical control manufacturers and consultants to ensure compliance with UPS standards, and safety regulations. The final project should incorporate the latest engineering technologies to deliver the most efficient and cost-effective solutions in the material-handling industry.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Design, implement and improve electrical equipment, facilities or systems for industrial purposes.

  • Project Planning: Develops and executes project management plans for basic projects of short duration requiring limited coordination and resources; supports initiatives with well-defined project needs and cross-functional roles/responsibilities throughout the project life cycle; manages minimal organizational resistance to cross-functional project demands; employs project management tools and technology (e.g., Microsoft Project, Program Management Group website, etc.) appropriately

  • Business, Financial, and Industry Knowledge: Demonstrates a general understanding of industry and financial trends impacting UPS and/or customers’ organizations; identifies the organizational structure and functions within a business

  • Vendor/Supplier Management: Demonstrates a broad understanding of UPS and vendor business needs and goals; reviews and recommends appropriate vendors based on business needs to internal stakeholders; provides input into the creation of vendor contracts or agreements; communicates expectations to vendors

  • Detail oriented with the ability to distinguish between “big picture” concepts and detailed facts, while ensuring tasks are completed accurately and with appropriate level of detail to impact end goals

Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering - Required

  • Must have experience with designing solutions for process improvement - Required

  • Strong electrical aptitude to understand and troubleshoot control systems and equipment interfaces - Required

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, OneNote, Teams and Outlook) - Required

  • Proficient in advanced 2D drafting, utilizing AutoCADElectrical. EPLAN Experience is a plus - Preferred

  • Experience in industrial automation - Preferred

  • Two years of experience evaluating bid proposals - Preferred

  • Must have a flexible travel schedule (weekends included)
