UPSER SPOTLIGHT
Meet Team UPS
Evan B.
Engineering Intern
As an Engineering Intern, Evan is optimizing the routes that the drivers will follow while delivering packages. Additionally, he’s building his professional network by getting to know his fellow UPSers. His advice for prospective UPS Interns? “Never stop asking questions, because that’s really how you’ll learn.”
Q&A with Evan
I was attracted to UPS because I’ve known a few people that work in UPS engineering, and they seem to really enjoy their jobs.
Essentially what I do is optimize routes that the drivers will follow to deliver packages.
I’ve learned to exercise patience when working with particular programs, and how to use a proprietary, high-use specific program when it comes to Industrial Engineering applications.
I think it's really important to get to know the people you work with, they're not just a drone in an office. They are people too—you want to get to know them. Additionally, just never stop asking questions, because that’s really how you’ll learn.
I enjoy how welcoming everybody has been so far. Nobody has turned me down—when I ask a question, they treat me like one of their own.
The meaningful aspect of my internship has been knowing that the route solutions I’m generating are actually going to make the drivers’ day-to-day easier.
After my undergrad I’d like to go to law school and specialize in data privacy. What I think I’ll take away from UPS Industrial Engineering is the critical thinking and process optimization mindset and how that can be better applied in other facets of my professional career.
I think what separates the UPS internship program is that they actually have a program, a lot of places I looked into just kind of throw you into a work environment, but there’s regiments set up in UPS that actually kind of guide you so you're learning as an intern.
