An Exciting Opportunity at the Nexus of Politics, Transportation, Logistics and Sustainability: The Intern will have an opportunity to support UPS government affairs strategy in Washington, D.C. by contributing to federal and state efforts of UPS on key topics, including:

  • advocating federally and in the states for a pro-business tax environment that enhances our long-term global competitiveness and provides incentives to support our sustainability initiatives.
  • ensuring infrastructure and sustainable energy policies are developed holistically, improving surface transportation funding, enabling the use of advanced technologies – including autonomous trucks – and promoting an expanded, alternative fuel air and ground fleet.
  • supporting an inclusive trade agenda while promoting the value of global supply chains by seeking opportunities to advance pro-growth trade principle and streamlining customs processes.
  • improving network flexibility and competitiveness by advocating for policies that limit labor risk and strengthen our position to compete with industry disruptors.

The intern will work to enhance UPS relationships with key government officials and industry organizations to promote a business and policy environment that is more favorable to our growth objectives and our vision for sustainability and corporate responsibility. The role is based in Washington, D.C. The person fulfilling this role will be integrated into relatively small but engaged and diverse team of government relations professionals where they will have an opportunity to take on more substantial work than a typical intern, gaining valuable experience in public policy, lobbying, and corporate strategy.

In this role, the intern will be responsible for internal and external activity, including the following:

  • Collating public affairs materials and developing/maintaining the ‘library’ of materials
  • Creating and organizing public affairs collateral
  • Developing important communications materials needed for government relations outreach
  • Attending Congressional hearings and meetings with key officials. Intern will provide succinct written readouts
  • Scheduling and attending virtual or in-person meetings with congressional staff on key policy issues
  • Completing stakeholder maps on key issue areas
  • Assisting the Public Affairs team with gathering relevant government relations policy issues and UPS’s policy priorities content that can be highlighted on social media

  • Currently working on a degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Government Relations, Economics or Law, or similar
  • Interested in a future career in law, government, or government relations

For Non-Union Intern/Co-Op Positions:

  • Pay Range Estimate: $17.55 - $32.14 per hour
    • Note: Actual Compensation offered to candidate may vary within range based upon geographic location and education.  The pay rate will be finalized at the offer stage.
  • 401(k) Retirement Program – eligible at 90 days of employment
  • Personal Time
  • Paid Sick and Family and Medical Leave time as required by law  
  • Discounted Employee Stock Purchase Program – eligible at 6 months of employment
