Job Description:

Job Summary
The Project Engineering Manager is a member of the Building and Systems Engineering (BaSE) department.  He/She manages construction activities of both buildings and conveyor systems (e.g., overseeing bid packages and contractors, managing quality control, and ensuring the end result meets UPS standards and environmental compliance regulations). The Project Engineering Manager coordinates construction and conveyor systems projects, ensuring cost and quality specifications are met.  He/She oversees all aspects of building construction from tender to design to construction to commissioning and close-out.  He/She facilitates process improvements to ensure efficiency of the conveyor systems and package flow.  This position oversees General Contractors, BaSE Supervisors, and BaSE Part-Time Supervisors.  This position deploys new automated sortation systems which may include robotics, autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs), and solutions for sortation and transportation. He/She develops and validates equipment performance criteria and provides field support for acceptance testing. This position interfaces with sortation equipment vendors to implement system performance enhancement campaigns and develop new equipment for deployment in the field. 

Responsibilities:

  • Inspects facilities, construction and installations regularly to ensure adherence to contract specifications.
  • Meets regularly with mechanics, contractors, supervisors, part-time supervisors and housekeeping porters to identify and address issues.
  • Coordinates cross-functional activities to support projects toward completion.
  • Qualifies vendors (e.g., verifies that certifications are current, interviews vendor representative[s], validates references, etc.) prior to contract signing to confirm vendor’s capacity to meet project requirements in a timely manner for a reasonable price.
  • Manages a team of supervisors in performing sortation systems acceptance testing and validate system performance in facilities.
  • Provides field support for facility engineers and project managers to resolve sortation system performance issues with vendors.
  • Works with vendors to develop new equipment and improve existing equipment.
  • Trains, coaches, and develops direct reports to take on higher levels of responsibility.
  • Develops project management plans and leads the implementation for basic projects of short duration requiring limited coordination and resources.
  • Holds vendors and suppliers accountable for meeting system performance criteria.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or international equivalent in Engineering or related field. – Required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and native language of project site if different than English. - Required
  • 10 yrs experience managing building construction or large industrial installations. - Required
  • Previous experience as Manager or Supervisor with skills in Automated Sortation Systems is an asset.
  • Basic skills in AutoCAD
  • Flexibility to work weekends.
  • Ability to travel.
