Job Description:

Grade: 10

Days: Monday - Friday

Hours: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM with 1 hour flex

This is not a remote position. You must live within the geographic area of Louisville, KY to report to office.

Required technical writing sample to be provided with application and reviewed at time of interview.

The Flight Pubs Technical Writer works in a steady work pace; fast paced during heavy work periods. Writers work closely with subject matter experts along with other writers. Business casual attire. He/She takes ownership of a fleet set of manuals ensuring the manuals convey the intent of the manual owner, are technically well written and conform to the standards set forth in both the Operations and Administration Manual and the department Administrative and Training Manual. The writer will prepare and review flight and flight training manuals along with research associated documents and background material to aid in publication. This position coordinates with manual owners to add or rewrite content according to FAA, departmental and airline procedures, guidelines, and standards. Edits and preparations are made in XML, Word and PDF for owner and/or FAA approval or acceptance. Writer will help ensure manual owners use of the Airline Manuals Request for Change process and document the manual revision process using internal tracking procedures.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate, prepare and manage revision process for several fleet specific manuals with limited supervision.
  • Research technical questions.
  • Edit text and graphics as needed to ensure the document style, format and content meet established guidelines. Follow established procedures, complete the publications process, and present the manuals for submission and distribution.
  • Review and proof manuals for accuracy, consistency, and standardization.
  • Maintain accuracy and currency of manual archives and FAA signed documents.
  • Communicate and coordinate with vendors for print of manuals when needed.


Required Skills:

  • Fluent in English and demonstrated excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Excellent time management and consistent work ethic. 


Preferred Skills:

  • Education: A four-year technical aviation degree or relevant experience with broad knowledge of aircraft terminology, systems, and operational knowledge.
  • Relevant work experience is defined as demonstrated work experience in either creating or evaluating technical manuals, aircraft systems or aircraft maintenance related experience.
  • Additional desired skills are experience editing with ArborText Epic Editor or other XML editing software, knowledge of heavy jet aircraft systems and experience with graphic editing software.


Interpersonal Skills:
Must possess the ability to work with others in a team environment, with excellent organizational, communication, writing, attention to detail and time management skills, The successful candidate must be able to multi-task and work with minimal supervision.
