  • Aircraft Engineer – Avionics / Systems Engineer

Job Summary
This position develops and implements safety, reliability, and airworthiness policies, standards, and procedures for the UPS Air Fleet. He/She ensures engineering practices and procedures comply with government aviation regulations. This position develops cost-effective policies, standards, and recommendations that meet company aircraft specifications and cooperates with aircraft manufacturers to increase airframe and component dependability and reduce maintenance costs.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares Engineering Orders to implement Airworthiness Directives.
  • Evaluates vendor repair documents to ensure proper data is provided to authorize the repair.
  • Works with non-Engineering support groups to evaluate aircraft maintenance or reliability issues.
  • Works with aircrafts and component manufactures to develop solutions to UPS fleet issues.
  • Evaluates repetitive repair issues or reliability issues to determine if a cost-effective solution is available.
  • Develops engineering documents to implement cost savings initiatives.
  • Creates project plans to ensure all aspects of engineering projects are well managed.
  • Prepares Engineering Orders to implement repairs or alterations to UPS aircraft, engines, or components.
  • Prepares Engineering Drawings to support Engineering Projects.
  • Prepares Engineering Reports to provide engineering analysis conclusions to support Engineering Projects.
  • Prepares Engineering Substantiation Forms to document acceptable data for UPS developed minor repairs and alterations.



Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of the functions, regulations, and procedures of compliance agencies or governing bodies; takes a leadership position in programs that reduce risk and enhance safety.
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of key aspects of the mechanical functionality of the fleet; demonstrates familiarity with appropriate tools and parts needed for the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of equipment.
  • Demonstrates a basic knowledge of physical asset management; identifies physical resources to meet business needs; describes the appropriate use of existing physical tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Demonstrates understanding of implementation objectives, project plan, and one's role within a project; participates in the implementation of a project; provides timely, thorough, and concise updates for area of responsibility; identifies areas of risk and properly communicates them to the project manager.
  • Defines general business requirements for projects and/or processes; modifies or adjusts existing designs; develops working models; describes the impact of not following design specifications.
  • Generates reports in appropriate format using basic software; reviews report to ensure accuracy and completeness; identifies issues with report generation (e.g., missing variables, incorrect data, etc.)
  • Uses the appropriate style, level of detail, grammar, and organization of thought in technical writing; drafts standard specialized or technical documents using templates and job aids; considers the end-user’s perspective when creating technical documents.
  • Recognizes the basic impact of technology on UPS business, services, and processes; identifies technological barriers in achieving desired objectives; maintains appropriate breadth and depth of technological knowledge for current work assignment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering.
