Job Description:

This Buildings and Systems Engineer (BaSE) position assists in determining proper corrective action to be taken with damaged or worn equipment based on the history of breakdowns and discussions with the operations team to determine the most cost-effective solutions. The incumbent assists with dispatching BaSE Mechanics to complete necessary conveyor system repairs and Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMIs). This position monitors status of repairs and PMI updates daily to ensure timely completion of work. The incumbent assists conducting facility inspections and identifying operational improvements needed to promote efficiency of package flow and safety.

This position manages all project and process-engineering activities, including detecting issues and working with others to identify, recommend and implement cost-effective solutions that improve productivity. The incumbent creates and distributes bid documents and project manuals, evaluates incoming bids and project estimates and recommends/awards contracts. This position ensures facility appearance is maintained at an acceptable level at the most reasonable cost and may also supervise others.

  • Work Schedule: M-F/ Night shift but flexible based on business needs (tentative schedule is M-F, 3:00 p.m. to Midnight)

Responsibilities

  • Supports overseeing the protection of physical assets, facility and equipment maintenance, and facility housekeeping
  • Communicates assigned work status to colleagues to determine potential impact on the department's schedule
  • Oversees maintenance of UPS facilities and systems via both UPS Mechanic Teams and Outside Service Contractors
  • Delivers required regulatory training (e.g., Lockout Training/Hazmat Training) as directed to BaSE and non-BaSE personnel
  • Assists with identifying and scheduling necessary repairs and preventative maintenance using BaSE mechanics and outside vendors to maintain the condition of the facility
  • Supervises “in house” mechanic teams to maintain both quality conventional and automated package handling systems
  • Monitors building appearance and housekeeping operations
  • Develops projects from concept to completion to meet operational/district requirements
  • Maintains control of project expenditures to avoid cost overruns
  • Supervises contractors and vendors to maintain control of project schedules and costs
  • Assists with maintaining environmental compliance in accordance with UPS environmental programs (e.g., Storm Water, Clean Air, Hazardous Materials, etc.) to promote the environment and health and safety of UPS workers and the surrounding community
  • Conducts field audits and investigations and prepares reports outlining issues
  • Oversees, audits and ensures facility, system and process compliance pertaining to regulatory agencies which regulate UPS operations
  • Works with project managers to ensure work meets business needs, applicable codes and quality standards
  • Inspects facilities, systems and projects to ensure safety, environmental and contract compliance
  • Determines employee training needs and produces continuous development plans                                                                                                                            

Preferences

  • Possesses knowledge of physical asset management and identifies physical resources to meet business needs, and understands the appropriate use of existing physical tools, equipment and materials
  • Understands basic finance and accounting theory/principles to manage budgets
  • Programming experience including troubleshooting, basic understanding of networks, motor control theory, and operation including basic AC and DC electrical troubleshooting
  • Skilled in all modes of oral and written communication including one-on-one, small groups, larger groups, etc. with workers of various backgrounds, trades and disciplines, both management and non-management
  • Demonstrates effective organizational skills and follow up; able to handle many tasks and maintain forward progress and reporting
  • Proficient in developing project management plans and leading implementation using project management tools and technology (e.g., Microsoft Project, Program Management Group website, etc.)
  • Skilled at creating estimates and forecasts based on research, analysis, and qualitative information within specified parameters
  • Possesses experience identifying internal customer needs
  • Experience with vendor management to meet business needs
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar drafting programs
  • Bachelor's Degree (or internationally comparable degree) in Engineering or Technical related field - Preferred

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or international equivalent in Engineering or STEM - Preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite - Required
  • OJS and Maximo experience- Preferred
  • Programming experience including troubleshooting, basic understanding of networks, motor control theory, and operation including basic AC and DC electrical troubleshooting - Preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and simple diagrams - Preferred
  • Availability to work flexible shift hours, up to 5 days per week
  • Flexible travel schedule - (Up to 25% work week and sometimes weekends)
