Job Description:

JOB DEFINITION

The Sales, Use & Excise Tax Manager oversees tax compliance, audits, research, and planning for UPS businesses in the U.S. This role ensures accurate reporting and risk mitigation and requires expertise in tax compliance, audit management, financial analysis, and cross-functional collaboration to maintain compliance and optimize tax strategies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • oversees tax compliance and audit processes with outsourced providers
  • conducts monthly transaction audits to ensure accurate use of the proper sales and use tax
  • reviews and approves tax returns, funding, and audit assessments
  • collaborates with Buildings & Systems Engineering (BaSE), Finance, Accounting, and other business units to advise operational leaders on tax implications of capitalized purchases and transactions
  • reviews vendor and supplier contracts for tax accuracy, tax-related issues and savings opportunities
  • analyzes financial data and forecasts the impact of jurisdictional law changes on sales tax
  • conducts tax research in key tax areas, including Sales & Use Tax, Excise Tax, IFTA, NYHUT, Oregon Weight Distance Tax, and CTHUF returns and audits, to maintain compliance and refine strategies

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Must be located in the same geographical area as the job or be willing to self-relocate to the area
  • Must be willing and available to work a hybrid schedule with three days in the Atlanta corporate office required
  • Possesses extensive experience managing multi-state sales and use tax compliance
  • Demonstrates strong ability to analyze and interpret tax laws, rulings and regulations to assess their impact on business operations
  • Possesses proven experience preparing and filing returns, handling audits, implementing tax--efficient strategies and ensuring adherence to state and local tax regulations
  • Displays advanced or masterful proficiency and functional knowledge in MS Access for tax data analysis and reporting
  • Demonstrates functional experience with querying, troubleshooting and integrating MS Access with other tax systems to optimize data accuracy and compliance efficiency
  • Possess prior experience utilizing tax automation software such as Vertex, Thomson Reuters, Avalara, and OneSource and with ERP Systems such as Oracle and SAP
  • Exhibits experience streamlining tax process and improving reporting accuracy

Preferred

  • Experience with report generation
  • Experience creating databases and analyzing large amounts of data
