Job Description:

The Buildings & Systems Engineering Supervisor, Human Machine Interface (BaSE HMI) develops, integrates, supports, audits, and repairs our network of HMI systems. 

The BaSE HMI Supervisor participates in all project and engineering activities related to the development and integration of HMI solutions. They determine corrective action for malfunctioning systems and supervise the scheduling of necessary software and Operating System updates. The BaSE HMI Supervisor also works closely with our internal customers to iteratively improve the HMI systems throughout our automated network. 

  • Develops projects from concept to completion to meet operational/district requirements 

  • Integrate HMI applications into UPS’s diverse automated network 

  • Develops HMI applications to meet UPS’s safety, cybersecurity, and business needs 

  • Complete audits and resolve deficiencies in HMI applications 

  • Conducts field audits and investigations and prepares reports outlining issues 

  • Works cross functionally and with project managers to ensure work meets business needs, applicable codes, and quality standards 

  • Inspects facilities, systems, and projects to ensure safety, environmental, and contract compliance 

  • Researches all available information and gathers data to analyze system issues and provide solutions 

  • Documents and keeps management teams informed of all support related issues

  • Internal Salary Grade: 20E

  • Work Schedule: M-F, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., some on call

Knowledge and Skills

  • Skilled in all modes of oral and written communication including one-on-one, small groups, larger groups, etc. 

  • Enjoys and is proficient working with people in a team environment, both as team leader and team player 

  • Demonstrates effective organizational skills and follow up; able to handle many tasks and maintain forward progress and reporting 

  • Skilled at creating estimates and forecasts based on research, analysis, and quantitative information within specified parameters 

  • Identifies internal customers’ needs and vendors to meet operational requirements, determines costs, creates bid proposals, and analyzes vendor estimates and develops recommendations for award 

Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree (or internationally comparable degree) in Engineering, Computer Science, or related, or be a current UPS employee with three years of UPS experience - Required

  • Must have a flexible travel schedule (weekends included) - Required

  • Up to 50% travel - Required 

  • Experience in the Windows desktop and server operating systems. – Preferred  

  • Experience with Historian systems (Wonderware, ThingWorx, ect…) – Preferred 

  • Experience with SCADA/HMI systems (InduSoft, WonderWare, Ignition, RSView, Proficy, ect…) –Required 

  • Experience with Database management (MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, ect…) –Required 

  • Experience with corporate IT/Securities policies – Preferred 

  • Experience with Systems Integration of Material Handling Systems (CCD cameras, laser scanners, programmable logic controllers, embedded control devices, and other peripherals) – Preferred 

  • Experience with Automated Material Handling Systems – Preferred
