Job Description:

Summary:
The Global Freight Forwarding General Manager is responsible for managing day-to-day activities of Operations in related to customers, carriers, and vendors. The position assumes financial responsibility and oversees business development to manage product solutions and to grow topline revenue while managing profit and loss of the country.  He/She conducts cross functional calls with internal and external stakeholders, carriers, develops pricing and proposals, and negotiates contracts to cultivate new business. Monitors and analyzes operational data to assess productivity, service, and quality KPIs. Participates in meetings to understand customer requirements and expectations. This position is required to have an understanding of relevant local regulations for the area of responsibility and to develop business relationship with relevant outside policy people so as to ensure UPS and its PA position is aligned.  He/She also has to respond to requests for business and ensure that UPS is operating in compliant with local regulations.

Responsibilities:

Manages Business Development Activities-

  • Participates in sales calls with Account Executives to maintain customer relationships and support new business growth.
  • Coordinates product roll-out to SCS districts and regions to generate service awareness, conduct product training, and support new opportunities.
  • Works with the Solutions group to develop pricing, and create proposals for prospective customers.
  • Develops and negotiates contractual agreements with customers and service providers.
  • Identifies and gathers information on customer business requirements, value propositions, and workflow processes to interpret cost model outputs, assess solution impacts, and develop cost-effective alternatives for meeting customer needs and SCS goals.
  • Compiles information to support the development of master operating plans (MOPs) and standard operating procedures.


Manages New Customer Implementation Activities-

  • Develops work plans to identify required changes, review the project's progress, report on services and costs, and execute trend analyses.
  • Reads, analyzes, and interprets business and financial information to administer budgeting and financial activities and to plan and implement continuous process improvement strategies (e.g., costs, staffing, linehaul optimization, consolidation, etc.).
  • Engages with other business units (e.g., Implementation, Claims Management, Carrier Relations, Customer Service, shipper depots, carriers, Finance and Accounting, etc.) to resolve or escalate issues.
  • Implements program activities, coordinates efforts of subcontractors and field operations, and resolves logistics problems to ensure contractual agreements are met.


Supervises Customer Service Requests-

  • Provides rate quotes for pricing requests to support volume growth.
  • Measures entry performance for freight customer orders, shipment status, and non-operational freight data to ensure service expectations and costs are maintained.
  • Monitors service levels (e.g., call response time, abandon rates, etc.) to ensure service expectations are met.


Supports Operations Planning Activities-

  • Collaborates with stakeholders and service providers (i.e., external carriers) to implement new business, maintain existing business, and manage service expectations.
  • Works with carriers and service providers to verify capacity and obtain spot quotes.
  • Monitors service levels to ensure carriers and service providers meet service requirements. Works cohesively to resolve service inconsistencies.
  • Monitors Key Performance Indicators (includes but not limit to business results, productivity, on time performance etc.,) to ensure KPI’s achievement.



Manages Compliance Activities-

  • Supports annual operational compliance review to achieve commendable results.
  • Drives self-audit and self-assessment to uphold and raise countries awareness on UPS policies, procedures and to meet audit requirement.
  • Responds to compliance problems and identifies appropriate actions, identifies people needed to resolve compliance problems and collaborate to develop corrective action plans, identifies programs that reduce errors and enhance work process.


Coordinates Financial Management Activities-

  • Reviews profit and loss financial data to measure financial profitability and costs. Generates reports (e.g., daily shipment activities, service exceptions, cost-savings, etc.) through planning to ensure profitability and customer service levels are met.
  • Audits and uphold key entry accuracy to ensure accurate billing.
  • Monitors and reports any hiccups on collection activities to minimize Days Sales Outstanding.
  • Resolves freight payment issues with stakeholders in a timely manner to ensure carriers and service providers are paid on time.
  • Seeks process improvement opportunities (e.g., costs, linehaul optimization, consolidation, reporting, etc.) to optimize and minimize costs, ensure profitability, and maintain service expectations.


Manages and Develops Others-

  • Identifies individual and team skill gaps and developmental opportunities (e.g., training, special assignments, conferences, projects, etc.) to facilitate individual and team development.
  • Ensures that direct and indirect reports have documented career goals and detailed plans for achieving these goals to develop them personally and professionally.
  • Conducts frequent performance evaluations in a consistent, fair, and objective manner to facilitate open communication and encourage continuous performance improvement.
  • Holds others accountable to established performance levels to achieve individual and group goals.
  • Resolves individual and group performance issues in accordance with UPS’s policies and procedures in a timely manner to motivate and foster teamwork.
  • Coaches others and provides on-going feedback and support to improve performance.
  • Identifies opportunities to involve others in new and challenging work assignments and/or rotations that advance the skills and capabilities of individuals and the organization.


Requirements:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of people management experience and relevant experience in similar capacity from Transportation and Logistics industry.
  • Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of intermodal transportation, evaluates new or improved processes and procedures.
  • Understand the impacts of emerging trends in the freight forwarding industry, capable to develop strategic plans for effective freight forwarding operations.
  • Strong business acumen with cost conscious result-driven and customer-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and able to work well with people of all levels.
  • Exceptional analytical, conceptual, presentation skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in spoken and written English.
